I began my legal career as a clerk, and then as a full-time attorney, with the law firm of Hamilton, McDonald and Simpson in Ann Arbor, MI. They were the first African-American law firm in Ann Arbor and they represented a diverse group of clients with a wide variety of life experiences.
During this time I learned areas such as:
- Administrative law
- Appeals
- Bankruptcy
- Business
- Civil Rights
- Consumer law
- Contracts (business, consumer and personal)
- Corporate Counsel
- Criminal law
- Employment
- Unemployment Benefits and Workers Compensation
- Entertainment law
- Estate Planning
- Family law (divorce, custody and child support)
- Legal Risk Assessment and Risk Management
- Personal Injury
- Probate Administration
- Prosecuting civil infractions and misdemeanors
- Real Estate (private, commercial, landlord/tenant)
- Torts
Currently my primary area of practice is wills, trusts, probate and the general problems of the elderly and disabled, while I also continue to represent a small number of business clients. And with my 25 years of experience practicing in Washtenaw County I have a network of local attorneys who may assist me in reviewing cases outside my expertise. Sometimes a potential client will retain one of those attorneys.
DISCLAIMER: While Kurt Vander Voort, PLLC does not formally seek payment for referring potential clients to another attorney or law firm some, though certainly not all, pay me a referral fee should they be retained by the potential client under certain circumstances.
Finally, for those potential clients who find themselves in the limelight, whether inadvertently through current events, for instance, or whether through their own distinct creative efforts, Kurt Vander Voort PLLC has represented authors, artists, musicians, songwriters, entertainers and “accidental” public figures, all of whom can face unusual legal questions and issues. Don’t sign your intellectual property or your life rights away; call Kurt Vander Voort PLLC first.
